Our Quest to Create the Best Beard Oil in the UK - The Story Behind Hairy Highlander

Hairy Highlander didn’t begin as a business plan - but from the very beginning, the aim was to create what we believed could become the best beard oil in the UK.

Hairy Highlander developed over time - through years of trying different products, experimenting, and gradually working out what actually made a difference.
Long before anything was ever sold, there was a process of refining, adjusting, and learning what felt right and what didn’t.
By the time we launched our beard care brand in the north of Scotland, more than a decade had already gone into understanding how to create a natural beard oil that properly softens and conditions the beard - using high-quality ingredients and a consistent, considered approach.
There has always been a strong pull towards the outdoors. A lot of our time was spent exploring, being in nature, and over time that gradually became part of the process itself.
The Scottish Highlands have not only shaped the products themselves (with our wild infusions) but the direction of what we were building - eventually leading to something that allowed us to follow that passion more fully.
Our obsession gradually led to opportunities we never expected - including a collaboration with Balmoral Estate. We still remember the disbelief when we were asked to create a bespoke range of organic beard grooming products for them, built around the same focus on natural ingredients and quality.
From there, the story began to reach a wider audience, with features in The Times and the Daily Mail, before most recently being covered again by Press and Journal following a 300% increase in revenue over the past year. Alongside that growth, we’ve produced and shipped tens of thousands of products over the last year, reaching customers across the UK and beyond - a real wow moment for us in reflection.
All of it has grown from the same place - a steady belief in what we were creating, built over time without outside backing.
Through our social media, we’ve been sharing Scotland as we experience it - and it’s grown far beyond what we expected. Our Facebook page has gained over 55,000 followers in just a couple of months, with our posts now reaching millions of people each week. It’s been incredible to see the level of interest in our journeys and explorations around the Highlands.
We’ve also been fortunate to partner with organisations like Scotland The Big Picture, whose work in restoring Scotland’s landscapes speaks for itself.
At the same time, we’ve had the chance to work with people like Josh Donaldson at Earthdrop, building a social community of millions while actively cleaning Scotland’s forests - Being part of the wider picture has become just as important as anything we make.
And a huge thank you to everyone who’s supported us along the way. Whether that’s through an order, a message, or simply following along - it’s all played a part in getting us to this point, and it’s never gone unnoticed.
We’re still on that same path - continuing to refine what we do, with the aim of creating something that stands alongside the best beard oils in the UK.
Some would say we’ve already got there. What do you think?
