Why Is My Beard Itchy? How to Stop Beard Itch

If your beard is itchy, dry or uncomfortable, the problem may be your routine.

Overwashing, harsh cleansers and poor quality beard products can leave the skin underneath feeling dry and the beard itself rough and coarse.

The answer is not more product. It is better product.

What Causes an Itchy Beard?

Dry skin is one of the most common causes of beard itch, but the products you use can make things worse.

Strong cleansers can strip the beard and skin, while heavily fragranced or low quality products may not suit everyone. Sweat, dead skin and product buildup can also collect underneath a thicker beard and add to that uncomfortable, itchy feeling.

If your beard regularly feels tight, rough or uncomfortable, it is worth looking at what you are washing and conditioning it with.

Why Is My Beard Itchy After Washing?

If the itching seems worse after a shower, your cleanser could be part of the problem.

A beard needs to be cleaned, but aggressively stripping away the natural oils from the hair and skin can leave both feeling dry.

Hairy Highlander Beard & Body Wash contains no SLS or SLES and is designed to cleanse without leaving the beard feeling aggressively stripped.

The aim is simple: clean the beard while keeping it feeling soft and conditioned.

How to Stop Beard Itch

Start with high quality conditioning products and keep your routine simple.

After washing, use beard oil and work it through the beard right down onto the skin underneath.

Our beard oils are made with carefully selected jojoba, castor and meadowfoam oils, vitamin E and pure essential oils. They are designed to moisturise the skin while helping soften and condition coarse facial hair.

For a longer or particularly dry beard, a beard butter or balm can add further conditioning and help keep the hair feeling softer.

Good beard care should leave your beard feeling better after you use it, not tighter, rougher or drier.

Does Beard Oil Help an Itchy Beard?

If dryness is contributing to the problem, beard oil can be one of the most useful parts of your routine.

The key is getting it onto the skin.

Simply rubbing oil over the outside of the beard misses half the point. Massage a few drops through the facial hair and down to the skin underneath, particularly after washing.

That is where quality beard oil earns its place.

Why Hairy Highlander?

Because quality comes first.

We do not use synthetic fragrance or parabens. We choose pure essential oils, premium plant oils and carefully considered ingredients instead.

Those choices cost us more.

Pure essential oils can be dramatically more expensive for us to source than synthetic fragrance alternatives, and our biophotonic violet glass bottles have to be specially imported.

Our Caledonia range goes even further, using oils infused with wild foraged Scottish Chaga and Bog Myrtle.

We could make Hairy Highlander cheaper. We could improve our margins by compromising on ingredients, fragrance or packaging.

We choose not to.

Our ethos is simple: make the highest quality beard care we can, with no compromise on the ingredients, the conditioning performance or the packaging.

If your beard is constantly dry, rough or itchy, start by changing what you wash and condition it with.
