Why we would never use Argan Oil in our beard care products

Argan oil is a popular choice for hair and beard grooming due to its moisturizing and nourishing properties. It is extracted from the kernels of the argan tree native to Morocco and is rich in fatty acids and antioxidants. Many people swear by its ability to soften and add shine to facial hair and promote healthy skin underneath. However, despite its benefits, argan oil may not be the best option for everyone, especially those looking for optimum beard growth.

Linoleic acid is a key component of argan oil that is believed to have the ability to block dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone essential for beard growth. By applying argan oil topically, the linoleic acid can penetrate the skin and potentially interfere with the production of DHT.

Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is a male sex hormone essential for beard growth because it plays a crucial role in stimulating the development of facial hair follicles. DHT is responsible for promoting the growth of terminal hair, which is thicker and darker than vellus hair. Without adequate levels of DHT, the beard may appear sparse and patchy, as the follicles may not receive the necessary stimulation for robust growth. Additionally, DHT helps to increase the length of the anagen (growth) phase of the hair cycle, leading to longer and fuller beard growth. Therefore, maintaining optimal levels of DHT is crucial for achieving a thick and luscious beard. (Check out our DHT blog here)

While argan oil may have benefits for hair in general, it is not something we would recommend for beard growth, or use in our beard care products. This is because it has the potential to block the hormones responsible for beard growth, making it less effective for promoting thick and full facial hair. It is more likely to impact growth in sparse and patchy areas, but it is important to be cautious as it could hinder overall growth. Therefore, if you are looking to promote beard growth, it may be best to explore other options that are specifically targeted towards stimulating hair growth in that area.

Other oils high in linoleic acid include Sweet Almond Oil, Hemp seed Oil, Avocado Oil, Grapeseed Oil + many more.
