Nestled amidst the breathtaking landscapes of the Cairngorms, this herd of reindeer is the only one in the entire United Kingdom. These majestic animals, with their iconic antlers and fluffy coats, have been living here since their reintroduction in 1952. It's like having a touch of Lapland in Scotland!

If you’re in the area, there are guided walks that take you up into the hills to see them.

A Landscape That Still Supports Reindeer


Reindeer once lived across Scotland long before they disappeared. The Cairngorms provide the perfect habitat, with their vast open spaces, heather-covered hills, and snowy peaks. The herd, currently consisting of around 150 individuals, is managed by the Cairngorm Reindeer Centre, which ensures their welfare and offers guided tours to visitors.
