Why Is My Beard Dry? Causes and Beard Care Solutions

A dry beard can feel rough, coarse, wiry and difficult to manage. It may look dull, feel brittle and become increasingly uncomfortable as it grows longer.

The good news is that beard dryness is often influenced by fairly simple things: how often you wash it, the temperature of the water, how you dry it and whether the hair is being properly conditioned.

What Causes a Dry Beard?
Facial hair is naturally coarser than the hair on your scalp, and longer beard hair sits further away from the skin's natural oils. That can make dryness more noticeable as the beard grows.

Frequent washing can also play a part. If you're cleansing the beard every day, especially with hot water or a cleanser not suited to facial hair and facial skin, you may be removing more natural oils than necessary.

Heat can make things worse too. Very hot showers, aggressive towel drying and repeatedly blasting the beard with a hot hairdryer can all leave the hair feeling rougher and less manageable.
